You were thinking it, right? You see the word “hypnotherapy” and what pops into your head is some creepy dude with a pocketwatch who can turn you into a zombie.
I can’t tell you the number of times people have asked what I do, and I tell them I’m a hypnotherapist and they get this LOOK on their face. It’s always surprised, often fearful, and it’s mainly because there’s a whole heap of misunderstanding out there about what hypnotherapy IS, much less what it does.
Let’s start with the bad news - hypnotherapy isn’t a mystical art where someone snaps their fingers and you turn into another person.
The good news is though - the results, when applied by a trained professional, DO often feel like magic.
Most people are across the idea of therapy, these days - having someone help you untangle the knots in your brain is a sure-fire way to be happier, calmer and an all-round better person. Most therapy works with the subconscious on some level - that’s the only way to make lasting change. Understanding why we do the things we do, and then gaining control of that is the whole point of therapy. Hypnotherapists are specifically trained professionals who can help you access the subconscious processes of your brain and begin to change things from the inside out. No spooky pocket-watches are needed!
My specialty as a hypnotherapist is helping people with anxiety. What I hear most often from them is that they feel like their reactions to things are “beyond their control” - and being told to just “calm down and be less anxious” really isn’t useful. What hypnotherapy can assist with is breaking those repetitive thought patterns, reframing the body’s natural reactions to stress that are misfiring, and bringing back a sense of peace and calm.
Now, that doesn’t sound so scary, does it? It all starts with one session, where we’ll talk through what’s going on with you and together work out a plan to start dealing with it. If you were waiting for a sign to do something - this is it. Send me a message now and we’ll get your session booked in.
